Azerbaijan is the world’s oldest oil exporter. BP has been working in the region since 1994, when the so-called ‘Contract of the Century’ was signed, concerning the development of the ACG oil field, which includes the Chirag section, the Azeri and the Deepwater Gunashli areas. Working in consortium with partners Tyco for major ACG player and Operator BP, Optilan is responsible for providing onshore and offshore turnkey telecommunication systems for the project. Transmission systems designed by Optilan will link the drilling and pumping rigs, via 200 km of undersea cable, to the onshore process plant at Sangachal. The system will carry data and signals from many different applications including, of course, CCTV. And the CCTV cameras themselves, nearly 120 of them, along with lenses, housing, digital video recorders and monitors, will be provided to Optilan by Norbain SD.
