Focussing on dome cameras at Norbain LIVE08

Aug 22 2008

Reading, UK

Dome cameras have long provided flexible, reliable and accurate surveillance for a wide range of applications. The Norbain LIVE events give you the opportunity to see what’s on the market, and compare various models. There will be a huge variety of domes available for demonstrations at the events, a few of which are highlighted below.

  • If you are looking for a fixed dome camera you will find a great selection at Axis. There are several fixed dome models to choose from, including cameras that offer: megapixel resolution, vandal-resistant casing, extended temperature range, two-way audio, Power over Ethernet, and special features for buses and trains. A fixed dome camera is a compact camera solution with a dome casing. You benefit from its discreet, non-obtrusive design, and also from the fact that it is difficult to see in which direction the camera is pointing. In addition, the camera’s dome casing design offers efficient protection against, for example, redirection and defocusing.
  • The new Modular AutoDome from Bosch comprises of one camera and a series of interchangeable modules that adapt to your changing security needs. The technology is sophisticated, but the idea could not be simpler. The entire system is based on five types of interchangeable modules: the CPU, camera, housing, communications and power supply. Simply replace one of the modules to switch from fixed to PTZ, upgrade from colour to day/night, or add advanced intelligence features like motion tracking and IP communication. Available in internal, or external, variants with a wide range of mounting options AutoDome modular can fulfil virtually any requirement.
  • Dedicated Micros will be spotlighting its groundbreaking Oracle dome camera at Norbain LIVE, designed to be controlled and configured exclusively by the latest generation of DM DVRs and video servers. A key advance in the Oracle dome is an on-screen 'Point & Go' PTZ control capability, allowing users to simply click on the point of interest on screen, and the Oracle automatically moves to the required position - just like a preset - fast and accurate. This is perfect for network based systems where latency can mean joystick control is almost impossible.
  • The days of stepping through pan/tilt positions—and the jerky video that results—are over. GE Security’s Legend™ dome camera leaps ahead of ordinary PTZ domes with its exclusive SilkTrak™ technology. SilkTrak’s direct drive replaces gears and belts to move the camera with silky-smooth precision. That means you’ll see clear, sharp video even as the camera is moving, revealing details like facial features and license plate numbers that make identification easier. SilkTrak is so precise, you can program presets with accuracy of ±0.015º. As an added benefit, the SilkTrak direct drive has fewer parts for greater reliability.
  • Installers now have the opportunity to provide purpose designed lighting for dome cameras – with Raytec’s Ultimate Adaptive Illumination™ systems. New advances in LED lighting technology from Raytec allow installers to fit dedicated, purpose designed lighting for dome systems. Its Infra-Red (RAYMAX) and White-Light (RAYLUX) illuminators feature Ultimate Adaptive Illumination™ allowing onsite adjustment of beam patterns up to 180° providing ultra-wide flood lighting – ideal for domes. The Raytec illuminators can provide full 360° coverage of the scene delivering cost-effective lighting using only 2 units. Every dome is now able to maximise its night-time performance.
  • Samsung Techwin Premium CCTV camera technology is now available in a range of high performance speed domes. Competitively priced and supplied with a 3 year warranty, all four models incorporate SSNR Samsung’s Super Noise Reduction technology which delivers cleaner and sharper images by eliminating high levels of noise created when lighting levels are low, without ghosting or smear. In addition, all of the speed domes are equipped with a true day/night camera, motion detection, 128 presets and 8 privacy zones.
  • The SNC-DM160 from Sony is a ruggedized network mini-dome camera that incorporates a 1/3-type progressive scan CCD with ExWavePRO technology and 1.3 Megapixel resolution. Sony megapixel cameras provide you with clear, detailed, and amazingly bright images for surveillance and security. This new generation of cameras introduces a new ExwavePro CCD giving you enhanced clarity and practical intelligence for any security or surveillance operation. From airports, stadiums and shopping malls, to corporate, banking car parks and public spaces, the Megapixel range will extend your capability to protect people, property, products and services.
  • C-MOR from Videoswitch is a fully functional dome with built-in infra-red lighting, a feature that is both energy efficient and highly effective in  providing  360° pan and tilt night time observation of objects up to 100 meters away. For installations where the appearance of their building is important, C-MOR offers an attractive alternative to separate dome and IR lighting equipment whilst time and cost savings can be achieved by installers as there is no need for separate supplementary lighting equipment. C-MOR is "energy efficient" as it uses infra-red more economically by illuminating the ‘specific’ viewing scene unlike the alternative, less energy efficient ‘flood’ approach to IR/white light illumination.
  • Vista’s new range of vandal resistant dome cameras offers multiple switching point levels between day and night time modes allowing the installer to match the capabilities of the camera with the requirements of the site and the expectations of the end-user. The 540TVL resolution makes the most of the latest DSP technology to provide around 13% higher resolution than previous models. In response to increasing concerns regarding the protection of sensitive information, four privacy zones allow for four separate areas to be blanked from view on screen, ideal for any cameras viewing ATM and chip and pin machines.

Further details on the shows, including a review of the products, technologies and seminars, will be released over the coming weeks. For immediate, up-to-date information and to register for free at an event near you, please visit www.norbainlive.com.
