Vista launches new IR corrected Varifocal lens

Mar 5 2004

Vista (www.vista-cctv.com), the UK’s premier brand of CCTV equipment, has launched Vista’s first Infra Red corrected varifocal lens (VDD28V1114IRP). The use of IR lenses removes the need for users of day/night cameras to optimise the performance of their system by adjusting the camera lens focus between daylight and infra red settings. The IR corrected varifocal lens is suitable for any number of applications that require the use of Visible or infra red lighting. In setting up back focus, a standard lens  there has to be a compromise made thus allowing the lens to be correctly focussed at either visible light or infra red but uncorrected lenses are not capable of being correct at both frequencies.

Standard lenses are not suitable for effective 24 hour surveillance as it is often only possible to focus the lens either for daylight operation or night time operation, but not both. Infra Red corrected lenses do not suffer from these focus issues and are able to capture quality images both during the day and under white, or infra red lighting at night.

Mark Pritchard, Divisional Director of Vista, explains that IR corrected lenses compare extremely favourably with conventional lenses:

"At F/1.0 the Vista IR corrected varifocal lens obtains twice the amount of light of compared with a conventional F/1.4 lens. This considerably improves the performance of a high resolution monochrome camera or any day/night camera in low light conditions."

The VDD28V1114IRP 1/3" lens aperture is able to operate between 2.8 and 11mm giving the user an extremely flexible range of viewing options that can be locked by using the locking mechanism on the lens housing. The Vista IR corrected varifocal lens is ideal for any environment where white or infra red lighting is being used including retail, warehouse/distribution and commercial environments.
