Build starts on Norbain’s New Distribution Centre
Jan 13 2005
Work has begun on the new Distribution Centre being built for Norbain SD, Europe’s largest distributor of electronic security solutions. Conveniently located at Ashton Moss Lancashire, close to Junction 23 of the M60, the 50,000 square foot warehouse will more than double the number of pick locations (and therefore product lines) that Norbain will be able to stock.
"Reaching this stage is the product of eighteen months of research, evaluation and planning, "says Alan Heath, Norbain’s Operations Manager. "With the contractors on site you can sense that this project is really beginning to take shape and that in less than a year Norbain customers will be enjoying the benefit of the largest and most advanced distribution centre this industry has ever seen."
Norbain considered many options before deciding to acquire a site and build a distribution centre to meet its precise requirements. The location was chosen partly to remain close to excellent road and air links but also to try and ensure that Norbain could retain its excellent distribution staff.
Having considered several existing sites and land options, the Norbain Board of Directors took the decision last August to design and build a purpose built centre. Knight Frank was commissioned to specify the project and has since been retained as Project Manager.
"Ashton Moss will be a state of the art distribution centre with unequalled facilities for staff and visitors," says Alan Heath. "The facility will increase Norbain’s stockholding capacity very significantly with pallet spaces increasing from 1700 to 3250 and pick locations increasing from 4600 to 9574. The latest picking and transit technology will be used within the centre to ensure Norbain continues to offer its customers the very best customer service levels available in the industry."
